Doctor Kavaler is amazing. 14 years ago I showed up at her office with fears of having PKD. After careful investigations she reassured me that my condition was related to a congenital obstruction rather than to a genetic condition. This year, after kidney surgery due to a complication, her diagnosis proved right to the point. No cysts in my kidney, just a bad obstruction since birth. She saw what no one else could see. Dr Kavaler disappointed. The prolapse surgery she performed kinked a ureter in my kidney, which had to be addressed with a stent, in order to save my kidney, and she put in a mesh sling which had to be removed by another doctor, as well. When I came in for my post surgical appointment, she did not address the severe pain I was in, as a result of the linked ureter. I also had to wear a Foley catheter for almost 2 months after the surgery because the sling was too tight for me to be able to urinate Another Dr at another hospital had to address these concerns, as Dr Kavaler would not acknowledge my pain or the poor results of the surgery. I know Dr Kavaler has helped a lot of patients. Unfortunately, I was not one of them. Get a second opinion and understand the risks involved of any surgery you are contemplating.

She has treated me for a few years, when my good gp introduced me to a female urologist who respects and supports patients no matter how minor or major our urological concerns, no matter how many questions we need to ask her, and especially no matter how outside the traditional urology box our issues extend. Dr Kavaler is like a Renaissance medical woman, with knowledge in a wide ranging expanse of fields and disciplines. Because she is so knowledgeable and accomplished, she is not intimidated or demeaned by any question that patients ask. And she is like a female patient's Guardian Angel, honoring our need to understand what is wrong with our bodies and how to fix them. I have been waiting my whole life for a urologist like Dr. Kavaler. When I had a kidney stone that wouldnt pass, she very conservatively monitored the stone until it was necessary to remove it. She tried the simplest method first in her office, which was a bit painful, but her explanations throughout the procedure and her administration of pain meds comforted me. When we moved to the OR, she very expertly removed the stone and sent me home with just the right combination of meds to keep me comfortable. I know of several other women who suffered excruciating kidney stone removal post op pain because their male urologists would not give them medicine for pain. What insults to our bodies and dignity! Dr. Kavaler practices urology from a humanistic empirical evidence approach. She does ultrasound tests to determine exactly what's going on in your kidneys, bladder, and ureters, and she also looks at your uterus because its health matters to your urological health. She finds things that many gynecologists could care less about. And she sends you a report of what these tests show, right away. She respects your need to know the facts about your body. Very few, if any, urologists today examine patients as thoroly as she does. Dr. Kavaler has a staff of professionals from the front desk to the intake nurse to the ultrasound technician who are just as respectful, knowledgeable and compassionate as she is. I have never felt so protected by a medical practice as Dr. Kavaler's Total Urology Care does. In short, Dr Kavaler and her team of Superwomen deserve a Nobel Prize for TOTAL 5 STAR QUALITY care of patients.

Thank goodness, the Spanish-speaking lady ( I apologized for not having her name) at the desk took care of the problem. As an introduction, I usually email the doctor a lengthy note describing my wife’s unique situation. If we get any acknowledgement at all from a doctor’s office of having received the note, it’s usually from a staff member, and it becomes apparent that the dr has not read the information. In contrast, Dr Kavaler not only personally responded to each and every message we sent, but she also made helpful recommendations which calmed our fears. In addition, when we actually arrived, her staff was incredibly helpful and understanding, and made sure my wife was ok. Lauren, who did the CT scan, was practically standing on her head in order get at the area she needed to scan without risking further injury to my wife. Dr Kavaler then came in and spent a great deal of time with us, to the point where I actually started to feel a little guilty for taking so much of her time. A few days later I delivered an MRI report at the end of the day when it looked like they were closing up. Instead of leaving it for the Dr as is our normal experience with other providers, Dr Kavaler’s staff took it right back to her. Within minutes Dr Kavaler had read the report and came out to give me an update, which I absolutely was not expecting. Dr Kavaler and Lauren’s concern and and care for my wife’s unique situation truly blew us both away! I simply cannot praise and thank them enough!

I was particularly struck by a protocol I had never before encountered. The technician who performed my ultrasound was asked by the doctor how it went. As women, we don't talk about our vaginas and bladder and uterus. Dr. Kavaler prepared me for Vaginal atrophy which is common in women in their 60's. Due to a previous DVT I have not been able to use any estrogen based product to help moisturize my vagina. Dr. Kavaler introduced me to the Mona Lisa laser machine which is a brilliant device. It is a laser that goes inside and outside of your vagina to bring back youthful new tissue. It works so well!! I am being quite open, because most doctors don't even talk to you about this. I think every woman should at least have a consultation with Dr. Kavaler to see what they can do to age gracefully. She will be a guide through the "unspoken world of women's urology problems," whether they be UTI's or incontinence. Most important, Dr. Kavaler is honest, spends time with her patients and makes sure that different approaches are used to solve a problem. I must also add that I had a severe prolapsed uterus and I had surgery about 8 years ago with Dr. Kavaler. It was successful and a quick recovery. By far, my favorite Doctor.

The best doctors visit in years! From the moment you walk in to the facility to the very last interaction you feel like the entire staff are there for you. Doctors, nurses and administration staff are very pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful. They made me feel like I am the most important patient of the day. The facility was ultra modern and clean. The equipment and tools they used were digitalized and high-end. I could not be more pleased with the visit and follow up care I received. For months I have been fighting with reoccurring UTIs. I was going from a specialist to specialist with minimal results and lots of frustrations. I stumbled upon Total Urology Care by chance. I was simply looking for an available doctor on ZocDoc. Dr. Husain and her team performed multiple tests and diagnostics, after which I was prescribed special medications to treat my condition. I felt better immediately (day 1). Day three I was fully cured. I have a follow up appointment to make sure the UTI is not coming back. Overall I could not be happier with the outcome. Thank you so much Dr. Fatima Husain and team! You are the best.
